Zorro

For the interested parties I have taken a couple of photos of Zorro.  Lydia went with Anna to collect him this morning.  It took them a little while to get him onto the float as he has been a paddock horse for a few years now, but they got him on in the end and brought him safely here.  Zorro is a 13 year old Standardbred gelding.  That means he is an ex pacer and Lydia is pleased about that as she would like to try him in harness, and having been a pacer he should be used to the idea.  He brought his pacing harness with him, but no buggy.  We are not sure how tall he is, my guess would be about 15hh.  The horsey ones among you can see that he is really high at the wither, which makes him measure taller than he actually seems to be when you stand by him.  He is bay in colour with a blaze and two white socks.  He has been loaned to us from a family in nearby Caveside.  Their grown up girls used to ride him, but have not been doing much for a few years.

Lydia is letting him settle in for a few days before trying much with him, though she is working on combing out his mane and tail which are rather tangled.  Does she look happy to you?

Our good neighbour Anna has offered to try riding him first as he has not been ridden for a few years.  It may be a good idea.  He seems to be a nice fellow, not too silly – so far as we have been able to tell in one day.  Mind you he kicked one of the neighbour’s dogs when he got off the float, so Lupo better treat him with respect!  He also chased the cows just to let them know who was boss.  He was a bit freaked out at his first sight of a pig too, but seems to have accepted them now.  He enjoys talking to the neighbour’s ponies across the fence.  He hasn’t met the rowdy turkeys yet, that can wait for another day.

We had a maximum of about 8 degrees today with drizzly rain, after a minimum of -1.  The sort of weather to put you off of Tasmania, all the rain even hid a lot of the beautiful scenery.
